Aircraftspotting.net was launched in March 2006 with the goal to inform spotters and aviation enthusiasts worldwide about the best airport spotting locations, and share aviation photos and industry news. This site's creator is Levent Bergkotte, an aviation enthusiast, spotter, photographer, consultant, author and freelance writer. He has worked in the aviation industry in positions as Handling Agent at Maastricht Handling Services, Training Coordinator at Air Exel and Operations Officer at Denim Air. He travels frequently and of course never leaves his camera at home. Levent has lived in Turkey, Germany, Holland, Argentina, Belgium, Spain and Thailand. Aircraftspotting.net on TV! The site was featured on the BBC World programme Click in October 2006. Here is what presenter Kate Russell had to say about the site: "Next up a site that was sent in by Erica Armstrong, and is an absolutely must-see for all you aviation enthusiasts, otherwise known as plane-spotters. For those not familiar with the art of 'spotting' it usually involves camping out with a notepad, a pair of binoculars and a long-lens camera waiting for your spotees to show themselves; be they birds, trains, or in this case planes. While the design of this site is rather basic and a bit 1980's, I have to say the content should be invaluable to anyone who needs a few tips on the best places to hang out to capture those planes on film. Select Airports to get you started, and then scroll down the page for a list of links to the airports covered. Each section has a satellite picture of the area, marked with good spots for spotting, together with text descriptions about anything you should look out for. Other sections include the website author's own collection of more than 1000 pictures, and his extensive log book of spotting excursions and loads more." As an author and screenwriter, Levent has written "Crowded Skies", an action-packed techno-thriller in which aviation plays a prominent role. The novel is now available for downloading as an ebook in PDF-format! Click here to read more about this project, both a novel and a feature movie. As a freelance writer he contributes to magazines and newspapers, specialising in aviation, including Airways Magazine, Airliner World, Airports of the World and the Dutch magazine Piloot & Vliegtuig.
